Suffolk travelled to Horsham in Sussex for the penultimate match in the 2010/11 British Inter-Counties Championship, sponsored by Rileys.
On Saturday, the ladies B began with a respectable 3-3 draw. Winners were Leanne Topper (3-1, 14.84 average), Barbara Chenery (3-1, 15.38) and lady of the match Sue Thompson (3-2, 15.65).
The men’s B earned an 8-4 victory, giving Suffolk an 11-7 overnight advantage. Winning men were Phil Reeve (3-1, 22.69.), Curtis Hammond (3-2, 26.87), Carl Brennan (3-2, 26.11), man of the match Wayne Hammond (3-2, 27.23), Alex Topper (3-1, 22.57), Daven Wood (3-2, 19.49), Andy Noy (3-1, 26.29) and Mark Woodger (3-0, 23.12).
First up on Sunday were the ladies A who earned a 4-2 win in a very hard-fought match. Winning were Fiona Payne (3-2, 16.89), Rossy Scriven (3-1, 21.24), lady of the match Nicky Doidge (3-1, 21.48) and Jean Prewitt (3-2, 18.48).
Finally, the on form men’s A team took the first six games in a row on their way an 8-4 win. The victorious men were man of the match Kevin Harris (3-1, 30.57), Daniel Willimott (3-1, 24.57), David Mayhew (3-2, 25.25), Lee Topper (3-1, 27.77), Ian Randles (3-2, 23.01), Dean Barker (3-1, 21.258), Dave Ballard-Flatt (3-0, 26.37) and Andy Barker (3-2, 24.95).
That left Suffolk overall 23-13 winners, which, with the three added bonus points, moved them two places up Division 2 into third place.
Suffolk are 14 points behind the second placed team, so they're unlikely to be in contention for promotion after playing the last game of the season, but who knows?
That final match is against Berkshire on May 7/8 at the Riverside Snooker & Social Club, Stowmarket.
The match starts at noon on Saturday and 11am on Sunday. Admission is by programme which costs £3 at the door and covers both days. Spectators welcome.
