Football: All square in village derby

October 2, 2010 – Haughley United 2 Old Newton United 2
Honours finished even in this afternoon's Suffolk and Ipswich League Senior Division derby at Haughley.
The visitors went ahead after only six minutes when Richard Taylor converted James Hawkins' pull-back but Haughley were level 20 minutes later when Gareth Ward stabbed in Ben Martin's cross from close range.
Nathan Smith hit the Old Newton post four minutes before half-time but after the break it was the turn of the visitors to be denied by the woodwork, Lewis Broomfield and Adam Rickwood hitting a post before goalkeeper Robert Fox pulled off a stunning save to tip Rickwood's effort onto the bar.
Fox, who replaced Arron Mayhew midway through the first half, was beaten when Broomfield found space in the penalty area to restore Old Newton's advantage.
But Haughley made sure of their first point of the season when Callum McLuckie's corner kick flew through a ruck of players on the goalline straight into the net.
