Football: Stowmarket Town suffer cup shock

September 18, 2010 – Stowmarket Town's hopes of a money-spinning FA Vase run were ended at Greens Meadow this afternoon as they suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Suffolk and Ipswich League minnows Framlingham Town.
Stowmarket were hot favourites against their lower-ranked opponents and dominated the first half.
But they had only a stunning 30-yard strike from centre back Nathan Birch to show for their efforts.
Framlingham equalised through James Ward a minute into the second half and the same player took advantage of a defensive mix-up to put the visitors ahead after 73 minutes.
Stowmarket pushed forward in a vain attempt to find an equaliser but Framlingham looked the more likely to score, squandering several late chances to kill off the game.
Stowmarket have the chance of revenge next month when Framlingham are again the visitors to Greens Meadow, this time in the Suffolk Senior Cup on October 9.
