Shooting: Long-running club has fire power

Members of the 7th Home Guard, from which Stowmarket & District Rifle
Club was formed in the late 40s/early 50s.

One of the longest-standing sports clubs in Stowmarket is also one of the least known.
The Stowmarket & District Rifle Club was formed about 60 years ago, about the time of the disbandment of and by the members of the 7th Home Guard.
The small .22 club shoots at the Drill Hall in Finborough Road, Stowmarket, and meet on Tuesdays, 7-9pm.
They shoot at 25 yards but also share with the Woolpit club's 50-yard range.
Club spokesman David Meadows said: "Some members also shoot air rifle and air pistol at 10 yards. There are a number of competition to enter both club and county wide."
The club is affiliated to the Suffolk County and the National Rifle Associations.
