Stowmarket’s Mark Royal had to work hard to earn a quarter-final place at the World Bowls Singles Championship this evening.
Royal, who was celebrating his 36th birthday, beat Nick Brett 8-3, 6-6 at Potters Leisure Resort, Hopton-on-Sea, to complete a 1.5-0.5 victory.
But he had to withstand a strong comeback from his City of Ely rival, who had trailled 6-1 in the second set.
