Mark Royal eased into the semi-finals of the World Indoor Pairs Championship with a narrow victory over Billy Jackson and David Gourlay this morning.
Playing with Simon Skelton, of Nottinghamshire, the pair won narrowly 8-6, 7-7 and now face shock semi-finalists Michael Stepney and Andrew Baker for a place in the final tomorrow, 2.15pm.
The Scottish qualifiers pulled off a surprise 7-5, 7-7 victory over experienced Welsh pair Jason Greenslade and Robert Weale and then bettered that in the quarter-final with an incredible 8-6, 12-1 defeat of event favourites and reigning champions Andy Thomson and Ian Bond.
The other semi-final pairs Mervyn King and Kelvin Kerkow with Paul Foster and Alex Marshall.
The final is next Monday, January 17, 1pm.
Stowmarket-based Royal is scheduled to meet Jamie Chestney in the World Singles on Wednesday and starts his Mixed Pairs World Matchplay with Janice Gower against Ian Bond and Julie Forrest on Friday.
