Bowls: Royal takes on Kiwi giant-killer

Stowmarket’s Mark Royal is cast in the role of Goliath this evening, 6.15pm, when he takes on New Zealand’s Peter Wilson in the second round of the Co-operative Funeralcare World Bowls Tour Welsh Grand Prix in Swansea.

The unranked Kiwi pulled off a major shock to beat Welsh legend John Price 10-1, 7-3, in the first round to secure a match with World No 3 Royal.
Royal beat Jamie Chestney in his first-round match on Saturday and tonight’s winner will take on Scot Jonathan Ross, who beat Norfolk’s Mervyn King 7-5, 8-5 earlier today, in tomorrow’s quarter-finals.
