There was no first or reserve team action for Old Newton United on Saturday but that did not stop the goals.
Club historians have been checking their records after Adam Barton hit five of the A team's goals in a 6-1 win over Woolverstone United Reserves.
It is one of few times a player has notched a nap-hand for Old Newton and he joins an illustrious list including Brian Browne, John Kerry, Tony Williams, Ray Wells and Billy Arnold.
But it still leaves him short of Brian Browne’s eight goals in a 15-2 victory over Manor House Reserves in 1963 and A Williams and R Wells' double hat-tricks in a remarkable 29-2 victory over Washbrook in 1966 when all 11 players, including goalkeeper M Plant, got on the scoresheet.
