Football: Stowmarket referee faces a red-hot walk

by George Laflin, Stowmarket Referees Association
Even before he returns from his tour of duty in Afghanistan, Stowmarket referee Paul Quick has been lined up for another major challenge.
Unbeknown to Paul, his wife Sara volunteered him to take part in a sponsored firewalk, which is taking place at Needham Market FC on November 13 in aid of Cancer Research UK. Good luck Paul!
Another branch member, John Mitchell, has had some excellent FA appointments this season.
John has been involved in every round, (bar the 2nd) of the FA Cup qualifying rounds this season - Extra preliminary, preliminary, 1st qualifying, 3rd qualifying and 4th qualifying.
Not only this but John has also been appointed to an FA Trophy 3rd qualifying round game (Braintree versus Franborough).
On behalf of all the Stowmarket branch members, congratulations!
Tony Trevers has had to re-appoint more than a third of the games he has appointed to already this season. Please use this as a reminder to send any dates which you are unavailable to referee on (closed dates) to Tony as soon as possible.
Finally, well done on the excellent turn out at our last branch meeting, which must have been a record attendance for us.
I hope to see you all again at our next meeting on December 13, 7.30pm at Stowmarket Town FC.
Anybody who is interested in joining the branch then please contact our secretary, Julian Gibbons - ruth.gibbons@btopenworld.com.
