Football: Ridgeons First Division future looks secure

The Ridgeons League' First Division looks secure for the immediate future, according to leaked reports from Monday's Special General Meeting of the league.
Clubs voted against allowing more reserve teams into the competition and against reducing the number of teams in the Premier Division to boost First Division numbers.
However, according to posters on the Eastern Counties Football Discussion forum, the league is going to write to the Football Association, seeking permission to promote clubs from lower down the pyramid (including the Suffolk & Ipswich League and Anglian Combination) if they meet the necessary ground criteria but fail to finish in a high enough position for automatic promotion.
It was revealed at the meeting that four applications have been received for promotion to the Ridgeons League - from Lakenheath, Chatteris, Brightlingsea and one unnamed club - while five more are not far away from meeting the necessary ground criteria - Framlingham Town, North Walsham Town, Cromer, Sheringham and Somersham.
