Rugby: Stowmarket suffer league blow

Stowmarket RUFC have suffered a major blow ahead of tomorrow's trip to bottom-of-the-table Haverhill.
The Chilton Fields-based club were sitting pretty at the top of Greene King IPA Eastern Counties One with a lead of 12 points over nearest challengers Cantabrigian.
But according to this morning's Eastern Daily Press, struggling Fakenham have withdrawn from the league, meaning Stow lose the 107-0 and 69-0 victories they gained over the Norfolk side.
The net effect on the revised league table is that Stow are now only one point ahead of Cantabrigian and three clear of third-placed West Norfolk.
They have a good chance to build on that lead tomorrow though. Haverhill's one win of the season had come against Fakenham and the loss of those points sees them on minus seven with 11 defeats from 11 matches and October's humiliating 104-6 defeat at Stowmarket still fresh in their minds.
Worryingly, according to the Haverhill Echo, the west Suffolk club are also considering dropping out of the league, leaving Stowmarket with more cause for concern.
